I was at a dinner recently with an adult cousin of mine who is autistic. He said the r-slur which shocked me as he didn’t really come across as a guy like that. Ive known him for many years and could barely believe what I had just heard. I asked why he said that word and he replied “Its okay, Im autistic, I can say it”. I am autistic too and don’t use that language, but what do you think hexbear?

In which context did he say it? Was he calling himself that, or someone or something else?

Because I can tell you, some autistic people are really fucking reactionary in a way you might not notice if you only see them on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I think that word/slur is unfortunately making a big comeback in the current cultural/political climate, so there are going to be a lot more people using it. This is not going to be the last time you’ll be shocked to hear it from someone you didn’t expect it from.

He’s got his own way of coping with a lifetime of bullying. I don’t think he meant to offend you. The attitude is like this: “There’s nothing you can say to me that I haven’t already said to myself”.

It’s not okay that he speaks of himself and others like that. He’s doing psychological self harm. I used to do it too.
