A small update on my “cafe-drumkit” project: https://lemmy.world/post/30275630
As I mentioned last, the kit sounds ok, but the hardware is total crap, and sure enough, when I tried to tighten the snare-head, one of the tune lugs broke of.
One of my weaknesses, is that I cant walk by a drum that’s been thrown out (breaks my heart), or being sold for next to nothing, even if it’s totally trashed, so I have a lot of spare parts, and was able to find some old Pearl lugs I could use, only downside is that it almost doubled the weight of the kit.
The reason I was trying to tune the snare was because I wanted to record the kit, here’s what it sounds like (without eq or fx):

The kit itself was only 13,5€, but if I had to buy all the hardware also, the project would have been more expensive than buying a used cafe-drumkit, but it’s a fun project if you have a couple of stands, a basspedal, a bassdrum-riser, 18 tune-lugs and misc. bits and pieces.
The whole kit weighs 26Kg (shells weigh 12Kg, hardware and cymbals weigh 14Kg). If I wanted to, I could likely get it down a couple of Kg by cutting unnecessarily long hardware tubes, but 26Kg seams ok for me.
