If people are wondering about Egypt of all countries, remember that Egypt receives $1.3b in military financing annually from the US, & when Trump stopped all foreign aid right when he took power, only Egypt & Israel were the two countries they exempted from the pause.

As recently as late last year, the US approved a $5b arms deal w/ Egypt for Abrams tanks & Hellfire missiles, & in 2022 the US approved two arms deals worth $5b total for air defense systems, Chinook helicopters, & heavy transport aircraft.

The US & Egypt signed a defense agreement in 2019, but they began an alliance back in the 70s. The Egyptian military is mostly made up of American military equipment:

Since 1978, the United States has provided Egypt with more than $50 billion in military assistance, the US State Department said in April 2022.

A recently compiled list of Egyptian army hardware includes 1,130 M1A1 Abrams tanks, an undisclosed number of Stinger missiles, 3,890 high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs or Humvees), an undisclosed number of mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles, an undisclosed number of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRSs) and 201 M109A5 self-propelled howitzers.

The previous Egypt government was mostly dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood, which Hamas was always very close to. When Sisi overthrew the government and took over, he cracked down on the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood hard. Some remnants of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood tried to stage a resistance in the Sinai peninsula, and Sisi declared them a terrorist organization. Egypt alleges that Hamas helped the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (I’m not aware how credible this allegation is), and declared them a terrorist organization as well.

The Palestinians and the resistance groups used to get a lot of help from Egypt before, but since Sisi took over, Egypt has been trying covertly to sabotage them and help Israel. Presumably, because that gets Egypt favors with the US, and because they feel that Palestinian resistance groups threaten their power. They can’t go too public with it though, because Egyptians are by and large very supportive of Palestine and mistrust Israel.

I next want to know the criteria that each country used to decide whether Hamas is a terrorist organization. I hope that Pax Americana countries does not make the typical excuse of “Hamas attacks civilian” because the Pax Americana also has the policy to massacre civilians of non-European ancestry to kill terrorist suspects without those crowd of innocent civilians.
