Seriously, come and take it. I have like seven of them because I stupidly buy a new one and a fresh tube of caulk everytime I need to seal something.

Use your finger to smooth your caulk into those gaps.
Moisten your finger to create a glide that makes smoothing easier. The moisture prevents the caulk from sticking to your skin, which, let’s face it, is a better option than scrubbing your hands in shame later.
Press your finger into the caulk at a slight angle. This promotes a smooth surface while removing excess caulk.
Why not use a guitar pick or similar caulking applicator?
Manual or tool, either method works, take your pick.

use a wet rag between your finger and the caulk. keep it wet and it will make some nice smooth lines

The battery-powered ones are supposed to be life altering. Perfect uniform beads every time.
They are pretty nice, and since the one I used was like 15 years ago, I’m sure they’re even better now.
