      I agree 100%!

With Africa’s huge size and vertical orientation, there are so many different climates and exosystem types that it can host such a variety of owl. There are around 40-50 species, some are still be debated if they’re seperate, some are only found on single small islands, etc.

Many are pretty rare or at least hard to get access to where they live, so a lot aren’t on most people’s radar as much as they deserve to be.

A list of all the known African owls is here if you wish to see some of the ones we haven’t covered yet or to remind yourself of any you may have forgotten since I give you so many to keep track of!

The Milky is a cool owl. I used to think it was a tad uggo, but I’ve since embraced its uniqueness.

The pink eyelids supposedly act as little radiators to cool off a bit.

I’ll see if I can find something to post about them soon.

Is this the same owl we talked about matching eyeshadow and nail polish?

That is always a huge help. Their page is very web 1.0, but I think that’s perfectly fine for this type of context.

If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.
