Because what would happen is China would immediately destroy every single US navy ship in and around Chinese waters. They’d immediately take down every single USAF jet/bomber.

Then the US would stomp its feet and shit diapers while Beijing tries to get a world summit together to figure out wtf the US just tried to do. It would have to end there with a huge defeat for the US attempted invasion or it would just inevitably go on until the US lost all fighting capability and starts considering the suicide nuclear option.
