Right after you euthanise your cat to save them from a slow death by starvation
Is your comment a joke or not?
It seems like users have been unjerking badly here.

No I would never “buy” a “Pet” to be “Owned”, You can’t own other beings. They would be a rescue and they would be a non-human companion / ward.
As for ego, what is more egotistical than thinking someone needs to die just to keep another person alive? Nothing bigger than carnie’s ego when it comes to thinking its okay to kill others just so they can have taste pleasure.
You can make that argument for anyone feeding there cat dry kibble then as a cat probably couldn’t tell the difference between kibble with meat and the one without as it’s so processed anyway.
In general the stuff we feed pets is more like chicken nuggets then chicken breast and you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between a vegan chicken nugget and a real chicken nugget these days.
Animals don’t think beyond “this is tasty”.
Does it give them sufficient nutrients? Are they getting enough stimulation and exercise from not having to hunt their food? If so then it doesn’t matter what you feed them.
There’s probably a good argument against pet ownership from a vegan perspective. But I don’t think it’s because feeding a pet vegan kibble is somehow wrong. As long as they’re getting their nutrients, the cat probably doesn’t know or care.
Vegan’s don’t “own” “pets”, they have wards/non-human companions. Most vegans take car of rescues, buying from mills is unethical / supporting animal abuse.
Nope. No pets allowed. However in the interest of harm reduction you may adopt an animal companion from a shelter as long as you don’t treat like property. Note that the primary concern is not the pleasure of the human, which you have correctly pointed out is definitely not vegan, but the well-being of the animal.
I do object to feeding them vegan food if they’re not vegetarian in the wild. The only party being satisfied by that arrangement is the owner and their inflated ego, overshadowing the very nature of their pet.
Vegan diets are possible for a lot of animals that aren’t in the wild because we have access to stuff they don’t have in the wild. Also the animal that gets to live instead of being ground up into the treats used to teach mittens some showtricks to parade around is presumably rather satisfied with vegan cat and dog food as well.
That would be letting it go way to far though. 🫣 Just sayin’. 🏳️
How so
Just my personal opinion.!
PS Don’t know what killed the code and thus show the alt text instead of the pic. Sorry for that.
Killing a small handful of people pales next to the institutionalized torture and murder of billions.
But if we can get them to stop doing it of their own free will, then sure, that would be preferable.
We already arrest people for animal abuse, eating meat just isn’t considered animal abuse by current society. If society needlessly killing animals as animal abuse then those responsible for killing billions of animals each year from factory farms will have a high price to pay.
Personally I don’t believe things should go further than life in prison.
