Because my bike works fine. And is more fun.

Anyone else hate when they feel “forced” to use the car?

If that were you and it were a pizza that size, I would steal it from you, gleefully skipping away whilst stuffing my fat face with it. I might share a piece with an along-the-way bulldog if one were encountered.

      Man I love pizza!

So many times have I heard “but how are you going to get groceries?!?” My man, there’s this thing called a rack.

By the way, congratulations on the new family member. Is a cargo long tail or box bike in your future?

Panniers and backpacks help too. I can get about the same amount on me and my bike as I can in the trunk of a car. I just have to keep in mind how the load is organized so it can stay balanced.

Yes, but also that particular one costs about $500 more than it needs to.

(Personally, I recommend finding a used InStep child trailer ranging from $free discarded on the curb to $50 from Craigslist, and then modifying it for cargo yourself.)

I use something like that except mine was maybe 200 euros, folds and you can add a wheel and handle at the front to use it by hand.

Thanks! But I was actually heading to a baby shower at work, so it’s for a friend 😂

I would love a cargo bike, but I’m officially out of garage space right now… Pretty sure my wife doesn’t want bikes in our guest room either 😅

what is it with the racks? i barely ever see anyone here in sweden use those, we all just have baskets in the front and rear and that gives enough capacity to rival bakfietsen, put the baskets on a cheapo e-bike and you effectively have a DIY cargo bike that looks normal.

That rear thing you’re hanging your grocery panniers on is called a rack. At least that’s what it’s called here in the states.

Nice bike setup. It’s similar to what I use.

right but literally everyone has a rear rack, is that not true in america? and it’s not particularly helpful for transporting anything other than mail packages.

Indeed racks are not common here in America. Racks are easy to find in bike shops and some bikes are sold with them, but they are not on every bike. I’d guess about 5% of bikes have a rack installed. Even fewer have a front rack or basket.

Knowing how to use a bike rack, like attaching panniers, crates, or simply strapping on a bulky item, is bike enthusiast knowledge. eBikes are starting to change that (bikes being viewed as utility tools and not just for leisure). I’m hopeful we’ll get to a point where bikes like yours are not an oddity.

I have a plan to build a rear rack accessory that is specifically for hauling multiple Costco pizzas whenever I’m hosting a party. Why? Because I can, and living only 5 km from Costco means I should avail myself of biking there rather than having to drive, for something as simple as hot pizza.

How long does 5 km take to bike? Would you go in winter too?

I ask BC I live about 5-10 min from a papa johns, but I would need some kind of extra large insulated grubhub backpack.

Not OP, but depending on a variety of factors – rights of way, hills, carless paths – my local bike nexus that can get me anywhere in the city takes about 12 minutes to ride to. It’s six km.

About maybe 15-20 minutes, and I’m in California so winter isn’t comparable to British Columbia at all. Probably the greatest weather hazard would be rain, but it’d be fairly easy to cover a pizza box.

If it did come to it, I would just get exactly one of those insulated pizza bags, assuming it fits the pizza in buying.

I’ve picked up kitty litter on my bike before - I strapped it down much the same as here but the weight distribution was hilariously off. So much weight over the back wheel I could’ve done a wheelie just thinking about it but the weight was so high I would’ve flipped faster than a thing that flips really well.

Wish I could do more grocery runs on my bike though.

I’ve got a rack and panniers, backpack and all that. This looks fun but unless I can put it together at Harbor Freight for six nickels and a peanut, I’ll probably just stick with terrible geometry.

I got one that I paid £80 and it saves me £520 per annum as I don’t have to pay for the taxi cab to and back from the nearest Lidl, I guess you could make it from spare parts for free, but it saves so many trips and money that I think you’d lose money trying to hack it from 2x4, sometimes you need to cough up the dough

Here in Sweden people buy wagons that attaches to the rear of the bike. Great for grocery shopping, especially when combined with bike saddlebags.

I try to cycle everywhere in my town (fantastic bike paths and lanes), but downtown has more or less 0 bike infrastructure and cars actually yell at me to get off the road whenever I go there… Especially sad because it’s one of the areas I hate driving the most.

But I am hopefully my city will add bike infrastructure there someday

I had to go check, but it’s mostly just from the weird perspective of the picture. The box not being straight, bike leaning, and handlebars leaning to the right. But, my saddle was actually slightly left… but only by like 1mm at the end of the nose. But maybe that’s exactly what you saw ;)

some people just have to do that to be comfortable, idk if my hip is twisted or something is up with my bike, but i need to nudge my saddle ever so slightly to the left for it to feel right.

I mentioned it because it happens with one of my bikes, and after almost 2 years with it I haven’t been able to pinpoint out exactly why is this happening, not even changing saddles - my butt kinda keeps sliding to the left in that bicycle. So that made me extra conscious about rotated saddles, misaligned wheels and stuff like that

The perspective on this photo does a number on my brain.

Looks like the bike is missing wheels and is just sat on the floor on its frame.
