It literally just said “theres more talk of tankies than there are tankies” and as you can see it wasnt a hot take.

This isn’t very cash money

The head mod there has very squishy politics other than being hostile to China, Russia, and ‘tankies’ by association. doesn’t claim to be an anarchist, but happy to speak for all anarchists. claims that they would be a Marxist if ‘tankies’ hasn’t ruined the term, so they’re just a vaguely-defined ‘socialist’.

Mod in the comments talks about being a socialist, but then has a comment history of “Vote for dems as the lesser of two evils and not voting for them is purity testing.”

Yeah, sure. We’re “”““authoritarian””“” for thinking China is AES and you are not authoritarian (even though you support genocide).

I like how these people think Lemmy even matters realistically — we’re not exactly a mainstream platform. Even if every person here across the political spectrum on every instance had united to i-voted for Kamala in 2024, that still wouldn’t have won her the election (nor should it have, her campaign of “I’m going to be even more right wing than Biden and offer not even a platitude to my voters” is understandably not the most exciting candidate to wait in line for hours for)

The non-anarchist/Marxist that thinks they can decide what is and isn’t validly anarchist/Marxist is an archetype of “leftist” that really irks me. They typically refuse to do any study or meaningful org work, they simply have the bare minimum political awareness to realize capitalism isn’t it and doesn’t have much juice left, but bounce off of the leftist crowd because we’ve been discussing these issues for a long time and that takes a lot of learning to understand the positions we have. So, they just sit there affirming the imperialist narrative reluctantly, and spend more time left-punching than anything else.

I generally don’t try to involve myself in discourses like those given how unreasonable these types tend to be regarding anything that could even be construed as favourable towards the U.S.S.R. or the other people’s republics. What unsettles me is their willingness to shun entire communities even if it means completely missing out on important topics like this one (ironically when they accuse us of ‘denying genocides’).

I can’t help but wonder if they would shoot me if they had the chance, based solely on a small selection of criteria. I would not put that kind of carelessness past them.

Believe it or not, many of the users there are pretty open to being pursuaded into better leftist politics. Admins and mods behaving this way pushes the users away, and being federated lets them see better leftist politics. It’s a process, though.

Yeah, I was on db0 before I moved to hexbear. Aside from actually just coming to conclusions that conform to historical materialism in regards to the position of the USSR, one of the reasons was that muh “tankies” weren’t actually that bad to hang around with on Hexbear when I lurked there. Also, it was ironic that Hexbear was the only instance where there was actual voting about issues pertaining to the site, whereas the other “anarchist” instances basically just boiled down to whatever the mods felt like.

I came in the r/chapotraphouse via a Bernie Sanders subreddit. r/CTH was the first community on the left I encountered that was active about banning transphobes, so that was a foot-in-the-door for me to developing into a leftist.

Some people are in communities they aren’t really happy with, so being federated with those places even if they suck can be valuable

Yep, and I know you’re not alone, too. Exposure does help, which is the prime benefit of federation with instances with worse politics (though it does create more mod/admin work). Lenin got it right when it came to how to treat non-socialist orgs in “Left-Wing” Communism.

I do understand defederation to protect marginalized comrades, though, and support that.
