Subvert.fm is a Bandcamp-like platform opening in a couple of days. It is a co-op (artist owned). I think it looks super promising, but I don’t want to get my hopes up. Anyone here been checking it out?
Looks interesting. We have to wait and see what it is once it’s launched. All we have now is promises and a lot of text.
I skipped through the docs and found one concerning thing regarding funding:
Subvert has raised $650,000 in investment from community members […]
Our Investors: Garry Elevator (John Garry) Supporter-Member, Brooklyn - $600,000
They’ve raised 650k, but 600k comes from one source. That has the potential to create a weird power dynamic.
That’s a nice find, and I agree that it is a cause for concern. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it pans out
Edit: Here’s the investors page I think? https://www.garryelevator.com/
If the music is good, and if they have FLAC, I’ll buy. Bandcamp hasn’t been destroyed yet though, but it would be nice to have an alternative.
It is in prototyping phase so i have no opinion. There is mirlo.space that got a grant to implement federatiin and in which you can already buy music
