    I can’t speak to the price of western food, so maybe. But as someone who recently went to China and ate a fuckton of noodle bowls and dumplings, it’s definitely not cheaper than that. And I was just a bumbling tourist. Like yes a whole meal could reasonably cost more than one burger, but for equivalent food quantity, no way.

    The cheapest I saw was in local neighbourhoods in Beijing, you could get a sizeable dumpling at 1-1.5元, about four would make a very heart meal.

      I’m saying basic noodles and dumplings can be cheaper but anything else is gonna be there or more. 20-40 kuai for a one-person meal is super normal, the prices in the OP aren’t outlandishly expensive.
