  • Being an entry level software engineer right now is hell.
People at my department joked around saying ChatGPT was like having your own personal intern, you can ask them to do dumb shit and you just come around and take the bits that the LLM got right.
That was a year ago, and LLMs have advanced a lot since then.
Even if LLMs can’t replace an entry level programmer upper management sure believe they do.
I don’t think progammers will be fully replaced but we are entering into an era of entry level programmer jobs imploding for years to come.
You can’t have senior engineers if you don’t ever hire juniors.
I don’t even think AI proponent CEOs are missing this part of the equation, they just don’t care about what happens in the next 2 - 4 years , capitalism gonna capitalist 🤷‍♂️

  • We already had like 35,000 national guards stationed at the border. Yeah, it makes Trump look strong and us look weak.
But also… as part of the agreement Trump said they would focus their efforts on stopping the arms trade to the cartels. I don’t think they’ve ever framed themselves to be part of the problem before. This may have been a slip-up by trump, because:
The republican party is so full of contradictions I don’t think they can ever do meaningful structural change like stopping the illegal arms trade altogether.
On one side, they have their military industrial complex getting billions of dollars on blood money profits, and on the other they need to handle their internal health crises. And, If our government (Mexico) wanted to destroy the cartels, having your enemies armed better than our own forces make this a task of monumental proportions.

  • One of the biggest takeaways I’ve seen is the ability for a socialist state to plan against the short-term profits paradigm of capital and be able to consistently do so in order to align economic goals for the benefit of the proletariat (common prosperity).

Taking my country as an example… This aligns with what AMLO’s book says in Hacia una economía moral, “Towards a Moral Economy”. Wishful thinking I know but… During AMLO’s presidency he sought to keep key national strategic resources at the control of the State, fighting against their privatization. One of Sheinbaums current plans is to develop a nation Lithium industry.
One of the “Distribution by Labor” mechanisms implemented was the implementation of nationwide social programs, and the massive increment (compared to previous administrations) of the minimum wage. This directly contributed to the lowest poverty levels in years.
As opposed as previous administrations where public infrastucture proyects were almost nonexistent, we saw an unprecedented public investment in states states that had been forgotten by the state, some of the poorest regions received billions in pesos in infrastructure projects to stimulate economic growth and to compensate for the lack of state intervention in those areas, favoring high capital concentrated areas instead. As for long term planning, the first 6 years of AMLO are infamously called (to the opposition) as the 1st floor of the transformation, Claudia’s plan is to “build” the 2nd floor.

Ufortunately neither AMLO nor Claudia were explicitly proclaimed as Socialists and I don’t think we are yet at the “Primary Stage of Socialism” step, but we are for sure closer than what we were 6 years ago.
I’m here hoping Claudia can accomplish her plans for us in Mexico.
