HiDiddlyDoodlyHo@beehaw.orgto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Help extracting kindle booksEnglish9·1 month agoYou can download an old version of the Kindle desktop app (for Windows) and download the books there, though I’m not sure how long that feature will be available if Amazon turns it off server-side. I’ve personally decided not to buy Kindle books anymore due to their anti-consumer DRM and ability to revoke my books at any time, but I’m also not sure who does a better job.
HiDiddlyDoodlyHo@beehaw.orgto Politics@beehaw.org•House Democrat launches impeachment proceedings against TrumpEnglish12·2 months agoComparing what this congressman is doing to what Marjorie Taylor Greene did during Biden’s presidency strikes me as a false equivalency and throws the entire angle of this article into question. While I agree that trying to file articles of impeachment at this point is not productive, it would have been the correct thing to do pre-2016.

Guess that means it’s time to start looking for a new platform. Not that Discord has been excellent in a while, but products always go to shit when they’re beholden to shareholders.

HiDiddlyDoodlyHo@beehaw.orgto Politics@beehaw.org•Dems Reportedly Angry That Progressives Are Pushing Them to Act Like an Opposition PartyEnglish1·5 months agoThey would actually be affected by these policies directly if they weren’t upper class, and I and other friends of theirs will absolutely be affected for a variety of reasons (public healthcare and anti-LGBTQ+ policies to name a few) and they still don’t seem to care. It feels like they’re so out of touch they don’t see the issue even though it will make a difference to the lives of the people around them. When you’re privileged, it can be difficult to see past the end of your own nose. (And I say that as someone with my own set of privileges.)
HiDiddlyDoodlyHo@beehaw.orgto Politics@beehaw.org•Dems Reportedly Angry That Progressives Are Pushing Them to Act Like an Opposition PartyEnglish9·5 months agoA friend of mine, who I consider quite progressive, has literally said similar things to your father. I think your post has actually shed some light on their behavior: they’re upper class (or their parents are). I was so confused after the 2024 election when they said everything would turn out all right in the end and it would all blow over, as if the changes the current regime is making haven’t set us back 50 years, as if people aren’t actively dying right now from Republican policies. Thank you for posting, I think it actually helped me understand why my friend said those things.

HiDiddlyDoodlyHo@beehaw.orgto World News@beehaw.org•Tea bags releasing 'millions' of microplastics into tea, study showsEnglish4·6 months agoFor chronically ill tea lovers (myself included), there are also a variety of options! Cut open the tea bag and pour into a strainer, buy a teapot with integrated strainer (they’re all over thrift stores if money is an issue), buy reusable tea bags and fill them on a free day, buy tea brands that use safe tea bags, or skip the strainer and enjoy your tea with the dregs in. I also have a twist open tea strainer which is easier on my hands than the ones with a spring in them. But if all else fails, continue to drink and enjoy whatever tea works for you!

This article is blatantly transphobic.

We have three “large” grocery stores in town: a Safeway (Albertson’s), Grocery Outlet, and a local grocery store which, like yours, is extremely expensive. Our Safeway appeared on the list of divestitures and I think that would probably raise prices as well as change the staples we have available. It sounds like a bad situation all around.

AI at Microsoft has not been optional for months. Someone I know has a job at Microsoft and has described it as hell. No human guidance or training, when asking questions of higher-ups they’re told to “ask Copilot”, Copilot is used for all internal documentation such as employee records and user tickets so when they need to find someone’s department or answer end-user questions they have to ask Copilot. They said it’s like having a full on conversation every time they need a small bit of information that a spreadsheet or database could accomplish much quicker.
