Being subject of western imperialism tends to do that. The US uses various think thanks and it’s media landscape to produce narratives with the intend to destabilize the countries like e.g. China. Also any state goes into censorship when it’s hegemony is threatened. Also chinese people on average seem way more informed about current events than the average European or American
