I’m surprised no one’s done it yet cause I remember people doing it for Kamala Harris the moment she became the nominee.

Orthodox Marxism but you become so orthodox you return to Hegelianism.
But for real though we do need a new Marxist ‘head’ to bring the ideology into the 21st Century, especially with the advent of the Information Age and all the socio-economic changes that brought.
Leegh [he/him]@hexbear.nettoEl Chisme@hexbear.net•AOC continues to post through itEnglish5·2 days agoIt was an open-ended statement (not that I was hinting at the answer) as I can’t really find specifics myself, but according to this old video recording of AOC herself promoting her enterprise, it was to “try to find designers, artists, authors that really know the ‘urban story’ and help develop stories for kids.”. No idea what “urban stories” means as AOC doesn’t elaborate herself, but if I had to guess was probably liberal capitalist-friendly fictional material repackaged for children. I should also note this enterprise ceased to exist a long time ago which, alongside her official biography scrubbing her entire entrepreneurial stint, is why it’s so hard to find info about it.
Regardless, this basically bursts the idea that she was some bartender/ waitress working class girl who decided to get involved in grassroots demsoc movements and instead was 100% wanting to get into entrepreneurship (with Israeli dual-national capitalists no less) before vying for political power.
Leegh [he/him]@hexbear.nettoEl Chisme@hexbear.net•AOC continues to post through itEnglish4·2 days agoThe bartending stint is not only a narrative perpetuated by AOC’s own campaign/ PR managers, but also designed to cover up what she actually did during her post-grad/ pre-congress period: working for a venture capitalist firm called GAGEis (or Gage Strategies) run by 2 Israeli-Americans.
She also founded her own enterprise (yes), called Brook Avenue Press, which is "a social enterprise dedicated to providing relevant educational products to children and parents in urban areas.”, according to her Boston University biography that is still publicly viewable.
AOC’s official biography on the US House of Reps website does NOT list any of this.
Here’s a Times of Israel article that openly talks about all this written back in 2020
You all fell for the grift.
Leegh [he/him]@hexbear.nettoEl Chisme@hexbear.net•AOC continues to post through itEnglish10·2 days agoI haven’t seen anyone here post about this yet, but some online leftists picked up on a little piece of AOC’s history that has gone under everyone’s radar until recently; after her graduation in 2011 but before her ascendency to Congress in 2018, she used to work for a venture capitalist firm called GAGEis (also known as Gage Strategies) owned by 2 Israeli-Americans where she actively engaged in and promoted entrepreneurial activities.
While under this tutelage, she also founded HER OWN ENTERPRISE called the Brook Avenue Press, which according to AOC’s biography in Boston University that is still publicly available, is "a social enterprise dedicated to providing relevant educational products to children and parents in urban areas.”. I’ll let you guys decide what the “educational products” entails.
The Times of Israel actually wrote an article about this back in 2020 as well.
Neither of these career positions are mentioned in AOC’s official biography in the US House of Representatives website.
Let this be the final nail in the coffin for AOC’s “leftist” veneer, and a lesson to all of you here that any Democrat that ever tries to pose as a “Democratic Socialist”, that fights for the working people, should be viewed with EXTREME scepticism and not the naive optimism that many on this site and its predecessor subreddit have perpetuated for years. Zohran Mamdani included.

And this can take at least several years before you’re finally admitted.
According to this SCMP article around 32 000 people left the CPC in 2010, but the party official who quoted this number didn’t give a breakdown of it.

I will say this though: the amount of glazing I’ve seen Americans on this site give this “socialist” reminds me a lot of when the old chapo subreddit was glazing Bernie and AOC back in the day as the new revolutionary movement. And look where that got you guys

He doesn’t see institutions like NATO and the EU as inherently bad for the working people, just flawed because of a few corrupt conservatives. He doesn’t see the US government working as an imperialist blob that led to its current state and foreign policy, just a few far-right Republicans and billionaires lacking decorum and doing uncivil things (and all being controlled by Putin because Russia is behind everything bad according to him), that will be corrected after 2-4 years because Democrats are so wholesome and based.
And like a liberal he’s also very contradictory and very much “vibes-based” with his beliefs. He understands what the Gulf and Afghan Wars were about and it’s consequences but doesn’t see the resemblance to the Russia-Ukraine War (he has the standard “Putler is a fascist megalomaniac and wants to take over Europe for no reason” liberal position, and thinks every Russian should be removed). Hell, it took a bit of convincing just to get him to realize what Israel is and why October 7th was an act of resistance against a violent colonizer, very likely because Biden was overseeing the initial genocide.
And I don’t doubt for a second if a Democrat/ liberal were trying to invade Iran my friend would throw all facts and logic out the windows and be 100% behind it.

Leegh [he/him]@hexbear.netto news@hexbear.net•Bulletins and News Discussion from June 23rd to June 29th, 2025 - Iran, Harden Your Deep Military SitesEnglish41·1 month agoThis reminds me sooo much of when Western media was interviewing Hong Kong Chinese “protesters” fleeing to Western countries in 2019. Same rhyme, different song.
It’s less to do with struggle sessions on Hexbear and more to do with the “Democratic Socialist” label that she and her supporters still use to this day.
Like I’m sure we all know she isn’t a Marxist or Anarchist, but many people IRL who aren’t terminally online will see the label and go “oh, she’s a socialist? So she wants America to become China/ Cuba/ North Korea” or even worse will think “Oh so she wants us to be socialist like Scandinavia”, both of which are wrong for reasons I don’t need to explain here.
It’s a major gripe I’ve had for a while now with Western liberals co-opting terms with the phrase “Socialism” in them and then doing things that no actual socialist advocates for. And like, I get the argument that having “socialists” in power helps de-stigmatize the term and encourage people to look to more left-wing ideas, but I usually counter this reasoning by saying it de-radicalizes far more people instead by making them think Social Democracy (a term I VASTLY prefer to describe people like AOC and Bernie) is Socialism and keeps them from moving further left by offering just enough welfare policies to not agitate the ruling class anymore. I personally KNOW people who think this way. It’s the same strategy Western Europe and Anglo colonies like Canada and Australia pulled last century, and it worked to great effect. Hell, America tried it before with FDR to incredible results. And while there are some nominally better “Democratic Socialists” in the Global South, particularly in Latin American countries, they still largely play by the rules set by international capital and neoliberal institutions.
Sorry, I’m just venting my frustration at the lack of any revolutionary socialist movements almost anywhere in the world even after 30+ years of unopposed neoliberal fuckery. I guess my point is we still have a long, long way to go before we reach the former heights that the Bolsheviks did.
