Merlin@lemm.eeto News@lemmy.world•OpenAI reverses course and says its nonprofit will continue to control its business3·3 months agoIs this likely to affect investment on them? I ask because it’s surprising to me that they lose $5b a year and now can’t follow a path to proper profitability, unless I’m understanding not for profit wrong.
There are strong competitors out there spending less and I reckon that their top of the line AI is not much better than DeepSeek’s or Anthropic’s and DeepSeek alone is trained at a fraction of the cost. Why would someone continue investing on OpenAI ?
Would the missing part of the front that Leclerc ran pretty much the full race without have caused the issue?
If someone car loses a part but they can finish the race would it cause the weight issue?

End of Windows 10 Leaves PC Charities with Tough Choice132·4 months agoI understand that people need to be a bit more tech savvy to use Linux over windows but I reckon that KDE for example is really similar to windows (but actually much much better) and with the ai chatbots we currently have available I reckon any non-tech users would be able solve most of the issues with the chatbot’s help

Which means they’ll likely create a single one that will eventually die and costed billions of dollars.
I started using my public library more often this year and was surprised with how easy is to use their system to reserve or even asks for books they may not have. Been reading a lot because of that without spending a penny. The best part for me at least is having a deadline to return the book, this creates a bit of a sense of urgency which makes me read more consistently as if you get newer ones you have to get in a borrow queue and there’s no way to extend it.
It’s also worth mentioning that depending on the library you may get some perks like LinkedIn learning for free as well.
Merlin@lemm.eeto Sysadmin@lemmy.world•You have until this time next year to move off Windows 100·9 months agoI’m using Linux now for a long time as my daily driver and for all the important stuff.
Games though I still end up using windows 10. My cpu doesnt support 11 and there’s all that crap of copilot recall and whatnot that I’m not interested at all to have on my pc.
Hopefully playing the occasional game won’t be a massive issue because I’ll have to go windows 10 with no security updates then.
Merlin@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•Starlink is refusing to comply with Brazil's X ban (Update: Starlink will comply)English18·11 months agoYeah. It’s really sad that a lot of people on remote areas in the Amazon will be affected by a ban on starlink. They also spent quite a bit of money for Brazil’s standards on the equipment as well.
Still, this shouldn’t be the reason to put anyone above the law, no one should be above a county’s law.
If this actually happens it may really backfire on Elon and all companies he’s involved, at least in Brazil.
As you invested your money in one of his companies products and now because of his massive ego/lack of mental stability you either lost support, functionality or access to parts (for maintenance of hardware) and I doubt any of his companies would pay their users for this inconvenience. This would make using any of the products he’s involved with too risky, better to just use a more “mentally stable” competitor even if the service or product is slightly worse.
Merlin@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•A unique aquaponics system to produce more fish and vegetables with less energyEnglish10·11 months agoI don’t know anything about this subject with the exception of a video I watched a while ago mentioning that most hydroponic startups end up failing because the cost is too high as you always need a specialist and you can only grow smaller plants/veggies there. This compared with traditional farms.
Does this change that at all? I’m hoping it does as I’d love that hydroponics got much more financially viable as I honestly believe they’ll be our future considering global warming and pests as well.
I think I found some. They all come with the plastic part, are the pins removable like regular pin headers or I’d have 2 plastic “strips” when I have them plugged in?
Regarding the diode legs. Aren’t them too flimsy. If I remove the microcontroller would it be easy to plug it back or they’ll bend too easily. I think I have some diodes laying around I could use
So, which one from that listing should I buy? They look all like regular male ones

Merlin@lemm.eeto Anime@ani.social•Top 10 Anime of the Week #11 - Spring 2024 (Anime Corner)English2·1 year agoIt’s a shame the Fable is not on this list. All the animes on Disney plus feel like they have no advertising at all. Well, loser rangers is there though so maybe it’s just not for everyone
Edit: oh. Just saw the full list. It’s quite low, pretty sad considering it’s not just another isekai lookalike like most new animes
Oh. Thanks. I’ll use the flux in the solder only. I’m quite a noob at that so I just got the soldering iron and the solder. I will see about getting the alcohol and use a toothbrush to clean it off after.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer :)
They are still going ai first on everything but customer support though. Any person who quits apparently won’t get the position filled by anyone else, whoever is left needs to try to use ai to make up for that person
