I don’t think the usability of Lemmy is the problem, it’s just users not wanting to tune out of mainstream social media. Everybody is there. Why wouldn’t they? It’s where everyone is. And convincing people that the massive shift in the type of content you can consume is worth it to not be consuming the content all your friends consume. It’s a catch 22. The only thing we can do is to post as much content in the fediverse as possible. I don’t think framing the general public as incompetent is helping either. Of course you didn’t make the comparison in the first place. I really hope the vast majority of the users of social media are able to Google something.

I know there is something available for vim if you are using a terminal emulator that supports displaying images, but as far as I know besides a language server for markdown helix can’t do that. Through technology we have become way more productive though. Every increase in productivity can either be used to better the standard of living (assuming that requires more work) or be used to lower the amount of time people have to work. I think the people that want to work just because they like it are a big enough portion of the world population to feed and house every single person on the planet. But instead, the increase in productivity is being gobbled up by a few people at the top. (see productivity / pay gap)

If the alliance was based on defense, I would be totally fine with it. In the case of an attack from one of the member states to an other state, the retaliation doesnt count as an attack to the member state, so the pact won’t activate. Of course that depends on how the member states want to interpret the pact. The pact signals a certain closeness / likemindedness, but not forming a pact wouldn’t stop these states from supporting one another. So for me, any country anywhere in the world can not be against any defense pact of any set of countries, assuming the spirit of defense of the pact is being honored. Or do you think its naive to think a pact based on defense won’t be used for attacking?

What don’t you like about GUI package manager frontends? The Pop!_OS spin of GNOME software worked pretty good for me and so does the cosmic-epoch store they’re working on. (Plus they both look good) Even downloading random .deb from the internet is only a double click away from being installed with Popsicle. Can’t comment on non Debian based ones though

Es geht halt nicht um Boxsäcke. Wenn der Boxsack genauso aussieht wie ein Mensch, mit dir wie ein Mensch interagiert und du ihn dann daraufhin schlägst, denke ich schon dass das negative Konsequenzen für deinen Umgang mit Menschen haben kann. Alles was ich sagen wollte, ist dass der Vergleich zu Büchern Filmen und Videospielen hier meiner Meinung nach nicht angebracht ist. Ich würde sagen ein Puppenbordell unterscheidet sich in sofern, dass man bei ausreichend realistischen Puppen nicht mehr von dem realen Umgang mit Menschen unterscheiden kann. Man führt tatsächlich die Gewalt in der realen Welt aus, während es bei Büchern, Filmen und Spielen immer eine gewisse Abkapselung zwischen Protagonist und sich selbst gibt. (Bei zukünftigen hochrealistischem VR würde ich das vielleicht ähnlich sehen)
