1950’s oil execs funded studies that show how they will kill the planet if they don’t stop, transition to something else, hell they had enough fore warning they could have R&D’d solar and monopolize the tech, but NO! They needed to make faster money faster and stopping yourself from killing the human race isn’t THAT important, and they knew they’d be dead by now.
That’s like saying too many people listen to music and it’s flooded with mediocrity, there’s a lot of really unrelated genres and time periods, and trends that come and go continually, like everything there’s a big amount of meh tier work.
We’re unlearning a lot today.
It came from the Labratory of The Mind, yes, the work was entirely metaphysical, but here’s the wierd part. They used that mental experimentation and applied it to real life action, and it worked. It’s like imagining you have a magic carpet for years then you stand on one and it starts flying. It began as imagination of the world around us, then when checked against reality. It works. Someone figured out that if something was passing around a sun. A planet, that it would dim the light at regular intervals. They checked, it did, that’s the only reason we know there’s planets outside our solar system. Someone checked the lumens of stars and found the data matched the theory. We use the color variations of stars in a similar way to detect more data. It’s quite remarkable. A recent discovery in gravity is that while gravity is a ‘‘constant’’, it actually fluctuates from place to place, I’m not sure if anyone figured out why yet, but if and when, how they find out, will be their imagining a reason, imagining how to check, checking in real life, and getting the data on if it’s right or not.
The far end might sound smart to you if you’ve never taken physics classes, but…
Jesus said very specifically to feed, clothe, and house people in need, and that even letting the poor live on your property and eat your food isn’t enough to keep you out of hell if you don’t actually keep them safe and fed enough. He REALLY insisted, he talked about prisoners rights repeatedly. I’ve never heard of a single church trying to improve prisoners lives. Not one. Someone did the math and discovered that if every building used for religious worship sponsored two people. Housed two homeless people, there would be no homelessness. That’s it. Two people. Now assuming just Christian churches would make those numbers harder, let’s go ahead and double that number even though that’s impossible because the majority of places of worship are Christian in the US by a lot more than 50%, but let’s just pretend it’s 4 people a Christian church. That’s VERY LITTLE EFFORT that would end all homelessness in America.
Try and build a halfway house anywhere in the US and what happens? Thousands of people suddenly are motivated to show up to town hall meetings and sign petitions!
Sea for Catwoman!
No he’s not. Remember when he said the idiot who signed the trade agreement messed up, then people pointed out it was he himself who signed it, and he didn’t care, and his cult didn’t care, and then he did the next stupid shit and everyone stopped taking about that stupid shit? He doesn’t care, he’ll never care, he’ll shit his pants, eat it, call it captain gravy on live TV, then say ‘‘fake news’’ and not care, and his cult won’t care, and then he’ll fuck a dead squirrel on live TV and everyone will stop talking about him eating shit.
Don’t use the buzzwords Republicans have spent decades poisoning.
That’s not passive… 60 interviews a day?
Feels misleading. The law stands, two bills have been passed that exempt specific projects in dense city spaces from some requirements of the environmental law. It’s unlikely to effect the parts of the law that protect actual undeveloped land, and doesn’t give exemption from wildlife habitats (undeveloped land), or waterways.
I let my kid go all flower child about the socks. he got athletes foot. Socks SPECIFICALLY are not a social construct. they prevent athletes foot.
Real this is not a pipe energy
in 2015 that’s $18.73 in US dollars, with inflation $24.92. So there’s not much to unwrap there except that the “current value” is never matching our current year, as these things have to be a few years old to have reliable stats to calculate. to inform my previous statement though, the entry level jobs at GM in 1955 required no diploma and were $2/hr with benefits. in 2025 dollars that’s $23.99. The average entry level pay in the US right now is $16/hr and typically without benefits. A lot of people who grew up on the $2/hr income think we are getting it FAR TOO GOOD, when that’s simply not the case.
you learn not to after a while.
every time I hear a old shitty truck engine rattle up near where I’m at, and hear the doors open and slam shut. fucking panic attack city.
I could eat the absolute PANTS off some shrimp. or maybe whales? what do whales taste like?
what year, and how much exactly per hr. I would love to point out how inflation works to you. the average worker in the 50s at an entry level, no high school diploma required job, was making A LOT MORE than you’d guess after factoring in inflation.
Go read about the whites first contact with Polynesians, they literally stumbled on utopia and HATED it. They were FURIOUS these naked people surfed and sang and danced all day and farmed for about 15 seconds and had more food then they ever needed. They literally never heard about work, they had dance crew battles and picked their leaders by if they could do any cool tricks on the waves.
