  • I say paintjob because there’s still a comparatively “clean” façade compared to countries where most of the people don’t have access to clean drinking water and stuff. It’s the big reason why I hate the US; they could just choose to be better but simply aren’t and they can’t even blame famines or outside influence(well, to some degree) or war within or near their borders. The paint is absolutely flaking off but there’re still a lot of intact patches for people to look at while pretending that everything is ok.

  • What the hell kind of test was it? The boxes of tests only started costing money within the last, I dunno, 1-2 years here in Canada and they don’t even cost that much, only about $20CAD.

Ya’ll literally live in a hellhole with paintjob. It’s like an apartment that looks pretty nice until you realize that the landlord just painted over all the mold on the walls and crossed their fingers that the water leak wasn’t gunna show up until it was at least too late.

Anyway, I’m sorry that you get robbed by the very institutions claiming to be helping you.

  • There’s a reason every young pet I see eating gets pats(within reason, obviously). Sometimes people will say “oh you gotta leave them alone, they’re eating” and it’s like, sure, if you want your housepet to act like a wild animal and potentially hurt someone.

Cats and dogs you train early to not be protective don’t act like that.

I know a lot of stupid people who choose to be good as well. Stupid people who know to trust scientists and who want to share and all that good stuff. Then there are the violent, monkey-brained goons whose only method of communicating is unfiltered violence. The latter are pathetic in all senses and no amount of being stupid will be an adequate enough excuse for their actions.

  • Sometimes yea! Tying a hold-down strap to your wheel is a lesson they clearly need to learn the hard way, though, I mean goddamn. Look, I’m still a largely helpful person and boy am I a yapper, which helps, but some people need more than a bone. I can’t speak for this guy but some people have also been told before several times and clearly need a stronger lesson(my roommate moving in with their partner in August, for example, who’s a fuckin’ mess in several ways(but we are still friends)).

I have learned in my life that the more I just tell people the answer the fewer opportunities they have for learning. Much of my knowledge comes from personal exploration and knowing when I need to ask for help and I’ve decided that I need to allow others to do that, too, and if I don’t I’m just taking that from them.

In this case they’d probably get a “you sure about that?” and that’d be the end of it. They’re only going to hurt themselves, it’s not like they’ll get anywhere far, so this is a great chance for some learning.

  • So, CO2 production does not immediately mean oil is required for production of something. Literally further down that article is “mitigation” and it points out the chemical process has nothing to do fossil fuels, directly, but with the creation of alite. The other part of it, burning fuel, can be changed for other stuff.

Plastic requires oil because it is made of the stuff. Powering a car does not because it doesn’t actually matter where the power comes from. These are important differences. You can make concrete without fossil fuels.

You’re right, we can’t bridge this gap because you are so beyond stupid that your own source even tells you that you’re wrong. It’d be funny if it was fiction but somehow you’re a real person and that just makes it terrifying.

  • Absolutely.

Thinking about it, our school systems do prioritize memorizing just enough information to pass a test and then people just kinda forget it all because they didn’t really get a chance to internalize it. The best teacher I ever had earned that title from me because he took the main curriculum and threw it out, teaching us instead how to be comfortable and confident with the CAD program. When the other class, taught by the moron who wrote the curriculum, even, joined us the semester after they basically had to be retaught because they retained nothing over the Christmas break and the rest of us kinda just sat there until they figured it out.

It ends up discouraging “frivilous” learning, demanding we learn not only specific stuff but so much of it that there’s no way we can actually absorb it. It’s the difference between letting a sponge soak in a bucket and just dipping it in the ocean.
