How is 90% of all wine coming from California? Is this talking about all wine consumed in America or smth? The other statistics I have not as good an intuition about, but they seem way too high for “all” as in world wide…
In Germany there is a discussion going on about a stock exchange price for electricity. Ie cheaper price during overproduction and higher price during high demand. Then you don’t need solar to benefit from everyone else having solar. Then you could e.g. “just” fill up a local battery with cheap electricity and use it when power is expensive.
I think the higher demand for AC is predictable as well, no? Climate change has been known to be a thing for a while now… And every home could have solar to offset the local powersurges (which would lead to problems as well, but what I am trying to say is: its not our fault that the state has not prepared)
and the main problem with gpt are the em-dashes

Tibi@discuss.tchncs.deto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are you most basic principles for life?1·3 months agoDon’t be a burden to anyone I feel like could be difficult sometimes. I get not continuously being a burden but if I need help I should get that help, no? I am talking about e.g. emotional support with people that have decided to be there for me, not me talking to people that don’t want to hear.
Tibi@discuss.tchncs.deto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are you most basic principles for life?4·3 months agoThis fits very nicely in my belief system as well. For me the reason to life is to make it simpler/easier for the people who come after me. And thinking about what I needed and supplying that to others is a very nice way to achieve this. Although this could sometimes lead to doing something that is not needed (anymore), but even then showing others that helping others is a nice thing to do is worth a lot.
Well the environmental costs are pretty high… One request to chatgpt 3.5 was guessed to be 100 times more expensive than a Google search request. Plus training.
This doesn’t change no matter the use case. Same with the copyright issues.
I think it’s sus that a Math Lecturer decides to post an article about philosophy and then doesn’t describe any of the steps he took. The article basically just says i did a thing, but doesnt explain what he did/how to reproduce the result… On the other hand, philosophy is a field with many wrong conclusions and the like, so it is believable. But again in my eyes it’s not proven, since it’s just ‘one guy’ saying something and not replicated nor reproduced.
Edit after replied comment edit: The second article you linked (actually the first in the post) changes my believe about the dunning-kruger effect. Thank you for sharing!

And reading into flashing it on an unsupported device is a rabbithole I currently don’t want to spend time with. And if I fuck up I can’t even write the company to fix it for me or smth like that…
Tibi@discuss.tchncs.deto Rust@programming.dev•What are you working on this week? (Aug. 25, 2024)3·1 year agoWell you’re writing a Compiler with extra features to tell you where compilation failed but without actually executing the code. If the language you are trying to implement has defined a BNF for its language its quite doable and depending on the features you want to implement almost easy. There are BNF interpreters and chumsky e.g. is close to reading like a BNF. But if you’re building a language where you gotta find out the rules yourself it can take a while and finding all the edgecases can be a problem… But the project is big enough that most probably don’t finish theirs
They recently recieved a “Blauer Engel” certificate for nextcloud-server. Iirc that seal requires the user to be able to choose what he wants. So new features are OK but they have to be optional. That certificate is handed out by a german government Institution. And very recently they started handing it out to software too, with nextcloud beeing the first BIG reciever.
