VolunTerry@monero.townto DRS Your GME@lemmy.whynotdrs.org•Reddit News today! Reddit has filed their S-1 for their coming IPO, has sent out a DM to users inviting them to invest in a DSP, and has contracted with Google to sell user data to train AI!English1·1 year agoThanks for the update Chives. None of this surprises me while I sit and watch reddit continue to circle the same drain as other platforms that deserve to be paid no attention or given any trust or benefit of the doubt.
VolunTerry@monero.townto DRS Your GME@lemmy.whynotdrs.org•So reddit has their IPO, cnbc duly enlisted to help, spez got paid off to wreck things (cheaply), then it gets shorted to kill it...English3·1 year agoChalk reddit up to another centralized platform that once showed sparks of promise and now is just another fully coopted and controlled cesspit.
I personally don’t plan to go near the IPO as a profit play in either direction, and wouldn’t invest capital in the business itself on principle alone. But to each their own.
I hope more continue to move to decentralized alternatives.

Thanks for posting an invidious instance link for the main linkout. I’m going to give this a listen.
Can I suggest invidious for the other links as well?
Or, if anyone else prefers, here are the links to the two vids as well as Naomi Brockwells channel on Odysee, listed in the same order as the original post

Great post title and passage. We would all be stronger for heeding the advice to simply not bow.
I see far too many around me waiting to bow for the next celebrity or strongman that comes around dripping the honey they want to hear into their ears. Practice strength of will individually and collectively we won’t need them.
Self hosting is best if you have the knowhow, inclination and time to maintain it, but there are alias services that will encrypt any mail they forward using a key you provided so this would eliminate the ability of your chosen non-self-hosted email provider/server to easily read your received mail limiting their ability to profile or target to any metadata and header info that is passed along unencrypted.
Of course, then you are placing trust in the alias service’s privacy and logging policies. But some are open source and you could host an alias forwarding service yourself if you wished as well.

To the downvoters, I’m curious, are the downvotes because:
A. You are opposed to fundraising for any cause here.
B. You don’t think stickers are going to do much to impact the situation or raise awareness any further.
C. You don’t think Julian Assange should be free.
D. Other _______________ (fill in the blank).
To follow up again, it sounds like Mr. Webb is interested in discussing this and spreading the info. I know he’s done a few other interviews to promote this message.
Are there any people in the GME communities who might be able to catch his interest to do an interview or press him on some of your specific concerns and issues, or those of people who are involved or sympathetic to our cause?
If anyone here or elsewhere is that person, or aware of someone who may have the interest or pull, I’d think that could be illuminating.
Really good input and perspectives as always, Chives. I refrained from giving many of my own thoughts when posting as I wanted those who hadn’t seen or read it to go in cold and form their own opinions and generate discussion here. But I will share now that many of my thoughts are similar to some of yours. I selfishly wish he’d delved deeper into certain areas and highlighted different issues. But his experience in the industry certainly eclipses mine, and I suspect that based on this abbreviated condensation of the issues he’s concerned with that he is attempting to reach a broader audience and not speaking as directly to communities like this who have done deep dives around market structure and ownership over the past few years.
I thought at the very least it was worth considering what he presents and would almost certainly lead anyone who’s curiosity was piqued by the discussion to pull on threads that may lead them down some of the trails communities like this have also tugged and followed down the rabbit holes they lead into.

No matter how much disdain any of us may hold for the legacy corporate press propagandists, it’s likely still not nearly enough.

Point taken and I largely agree with the sentiment, but the clerk isn’t forced to do anything in this situation.
Let’s all individually help suffering children when and how we can in the most effective manners we can without the intervention of all the middle men and grift.
Even if someone, for whatever season, tries to manipulate you, resist that manipulation, point it out to others if you wish, and live by the example of your own moral code. That’s my $0.02 at least.
