Aren’t games famous for constantly using new code? Like, if you do a game with invisibility cloak, there’s a bunch of ways to handle it that don’t necessarily work the same in-game when implemented. I don’t see how it works for video games at all when the repeated code is increasingly being handled by 3rd party engines anyway, and studios refuse to let their developers learn those enough to actually optimize it either.

Trying to get my mom to learn to play Silent Hill 1. She has this boomer fixation with gaming like they do with phones where they want the shiny new thing, but will put absolutely zero effort into learning how to use it and demand I spoonfeed them every single bit of help or else they’ll likely buy their way out of the problem (in this case, buy another game that they drop in 1-2 hours because they refuse to learn that game’s mechanics as well).

It’s annoying because horror movies have allegories already, but they could be about bigger things than the trauma of them. I read someone trying to defend modern horror movies like this by saying Night Of The Living Dead is about the trauma of racism. No, it’s about racism itself, not the black character’s trauma from it. The fact that so much modern horror is filtered through a single person’s emotional response to bigger topics every time really homogenizes things to a degree I don’t appreciate.

Watched The Science Of Sleep yesterday. It’s really good. I go to rate it on Letterboxd and see a handful of reviews call the main character an incel. Does incel just mean non-patriarchal guy now? I don’t see it used against “chad” types who regularly harm women, just guys who fit the less-than-social archetype, which seems like a bad way for it to be used. Seems like it’s just punching down on unprivileged men.
