Op used the word directly, what you describe sounds more indirect to me. I may be a bit pedantic, but musk isn’t going to pay to repair vandalized Tesla’s.
Relevant xkcd:
DLLS and similars are nice for running newer games on outdated hardware.
Sadly it also enables studios to cheap out on optimization, you shouldn’t need upscaling for 1080p medium on a new GPU.

Habe heute erst mit meinem Telefon bezahlt, ist aber eine hinterlegte Karte…
Kenne mich nicht genug damit aus um zu beurteilen ob das einen Unterschied macht.
Have you watched non episodic anime? There’s a lot of Movie length anime out there often with more mature theming.
Akira was probably the first anime that put the medium on the map for me at all. The animated Ghost in the shell movie is also pretty good. And almost all of the Studio Ghibli films.
You could also try stuff like Cowboy Bebop or Serial Experiments Lain for episodic but still short works.
There’s a pretty good Mad Max game out there…
The tube in the background is probably for the real repaste…
This 100% I’m the computer person in my social circles, and my head sometimes starts to hurt from reading less than ideal documentation. Granted those are usually for pretty involved stuff, but it’s pretty frustrating spending hours to chew through and not getting an answer after all.
I’d imagine it’s worse for people whose PC is not a hobby but a tool. You shouldn’t need to spend a lot of time and effort on a tool just to get it working right. That might be fine for a used bargain tool, but you don’t replace like half the world’s OS’s with a used bargain tool. That’s not what people want or need.
In Germany, and by extension the EU, we have a website called “geizhals”, which basically translates to “penny-pincher”.
It is an insanly good tool to find the specific item you’re looking for and where to buy it for the least amount of money. Its got a pretty robust search, and some of the most comprehensive filters I’ve ever seen. When I cant find what I’m looking for using Amazons search, which is nearly always, I use their site instead.
Only real downside (for me) is when stuff isn’t listed on there. They probably collect data and stuff, but they also provide a useful service in return.
While writing this I have also noticed that they offer the same thing called “skintflint” for the UK. Maybe something similar exists for ppl. in the U.S. ?
Oh, you’re right. Although 50% per year is still insane.
And I definitely forgot about investing, but also didn’t account for inflation, which maybe would cancel e/o out.
Doesn’t really matter if you consider the difference between a million and a billion is roughly a billion.
I tried do to just that, because i believed that it wouldn’t paint a better picture for the billionaires, and I also dont like that people have downvoted your comment without providing explanation.
Assuming Musk started working at 18yrs old, which would have been in 1989, 35 years ago. And assuming he started at 7.25 dollars an hour, and never got a raise, he would have accumulated roughly 527.800 dollars by now.
40h * 52w * 7.25 usd = 15080 usd 15080 usd * 35y = 527 800 usd
His net worth (according to meme) is a staggering 273 000 000 000 dollars. Obviously he had to have a pay rise to get there, lets calculate that rise, starting from 7.25 dollars an hour.
273000000000 ÷ 527800 = 517241.37931034
So his pay rise averaged over 35 years, would be an absurd 517240%, or 14778% per year. The yearly average pay rise is roughly 4-5%, its not even remotly close.
All of this assumes that Elon started with 0 dollars to his name, he didn’t. So in reality his hypothetical pay rise wouldve been a a bit lower. However the minimum wage wasn’t 7.25 dollars in 1989, and I haven’t accounted for inflation. Still the numbers would probably be similarly insane.
Even in a somewhat more accurate form, I think the core statement of the meme still rings true.

Some people have already mentioned stuff akin to this, like the mechanical govenor, or the post abt THIS MUSEUM IS NOT OBSOLETE, but it really deserves its own thread.
Technology Connections on YouTube has made some great videos about devices like that.
Neither sure how to call it, nor is it a technology, more like a mindset. I am just gonna name it: “Prideful Craftsmanship”
Basically the incorporation of “useless” decorations and embellishments, to show off ones skill and maybe market oneself a little. Definitely superseded in the capitalist world. Things were just prettier or more interesting to look at, even stuff that wasn’t meant to be flashy.
But with nearly everything being made to a price point, this practice has been somewhat lost.
