3·2 months agoI feel like if my kid was the age that needed this sort of distraction free phone, I’m not spending $250 on it. $100 would likely be my cutoff.
As it is, my teenager has a used iPhone SE I only paid $150 for. (She’s super anti-social network so I don’t really feel bad as she doesn’t spend that much time on it.)

Still a banger.
Now it has the kitchen sink AND vulnerabilities… and an asshole CEO.
As someone who managed it for a while, WP as a platform isn’t horrendous, but there are definitely better alternatives depending on what you need to accomplish.
Sadly it’s still a defacto standard.

58·4 months ago“Replacing high fructose corn syrup with cane sugar doesn’t make sense,” said Corn Refiners Association President and CEO John Bode. "Replacing high fructose corn syrup with cane sugar would cost thousands of American food manufacturing jobs, depress farm income, and boost imports of foreign sugar, all with no nutritional benefit.”
Corn farmers heavily voted for Trump, but according to them they’re weak and stupid anyway, so now we just wait for the cost of Coke to jump due to importing sugar. ‘Course, he never said anything about Pepsi, so people just flock to the much cheaper Pepsi products and Coke goes under! Brilliant!

Hardware@lemmy.world•Seagate on track for 100TB HDDs by 2030 — claims current top drive will triple in capacity in 5 yearsEnglish
3·6 months ago~24 years ago I had 2x 15k SCSI drives that were 3.5” wide but the full height of a 5.25” drive. For the time the things were fast as hell… they were also, however, hot as hell. So I got some large aluminum heat sinks and attached them to each side and made a 5.25” drive adapter out of aluminum. Since it was open to the front my case exhaust fans cooled the drives as it was the main intake for the case and it worked pretty darn well until I upgraded.

Hardware@lemmy.world•[Analyst claims that] Apple’s First Foldable Device With An 18.8-Inch Display Will Run macOS, Reserving iPadOS For The iPad Lineup And Marking A Shift In Product StrategyEnglish
4·8 months agoThis website is cancer, so:
Apple is working on a giant foldable device, which could be a version of the iPad Pro or a MacBook, as it is slated to feature an 18.8-inch screen. The confusion regarding the product arose when it became clear that the device would not be equipped with a dedicated physical keyboard. However, the fact that it could be folded like a laptop did not completely rule out the possibility of it being a MacBook. It is now being reported that the company’s 18.8-inch foldable device will run macOS instead of iPadOS, making it a close relative to the MacBook lineup rather than the iPad.
A MBP like this sounds horrible. I’ve seen some other manufacturers do this, where they have a screen on the bottom and it’s a keyboard… I know apple is great at haptic feedback, but that’s still a big bucket of nope for me. A fold out iPad, running iOS would be kinda cool, but also way too clunky. I’m not sure the use case here.

You had me until the last paragraph… The Orange man and MAGA in general don’t care about communism anymore. The government owns part of Intel now, his best friends are Putin and Xi, he’s pushing changes like the government controls all the means of production. Communism is hip now it seems.
Maybe if you call them socialists? But only because their base doesn’t really understand what it means, they just hate it but secretly want it when it benefits them.
