How long ago was that last a thing? I haven’t watched ads seasoned with media in many years, but that one seems ancient, like ~2 decades.
You can generate your own keys. Here are two PDF links I copied just now from a post I made 2 years ago here. I don’t keep these white listed, so I did not check them for connecting. The first is the official UEFI overview. The second is a great guide from the US government detailing exactly how to set the keys. If that link doesn’t work, pull out the document number from the link and search for it. Gentoo and Arch have guides on this. Fedora has the most advanced pre Linux init system in my opinion.
If you have secure boot enabled, and you are using the shim from fedora or ubuntu, then yes you need to worry about it if you want to dual boot with w11.
The owner of the machine is the owner of the secure boot keys.
√𝛂𝛋𝛆@piefed.worldto World News@lemmy.world•There Are More Robots Working in China Than the Rest of the World CombinedEnglish6·1 day agoNah. The plow improved society when everyone said the same thing.
The time can be invested in expanding and creating new things. Inbred societies that lost their industrial capacity only have the option to extract and reduce with gains and improvements. The capable use what they have to create more and new things. Puritan fuckwits believe they are in some kind of final state of technology. They aren’t even out of the stone age yet. The next era of major technologies is entirely biological. It is the key to sustainability. The USA forfeited that future for dogmatism and corruption in the medical field. All of the sciences require 5 sigma results except for medical. It is 3 stigma garbage. Things called breakthroughs in medical are insignificant irrelevant noise in physics, chemistry, and astronomy. One day biology will be fully understood and an engineering corpus. That is the day when true interstellar travel becomes possible. If we get to a complete understanding of biology before the next major planetary cataclysm, we will own the galaxy in 100k years. Planets are gravity prison cradles only suitable for the most primitive lifeforms.
The reason we are so backwards in the west is extremely simple, we are not a meritocratic. Wealth is inherited. All of our present leaders have inherited wealth. Business acumen and intelligence are not hereditary. There is no path that bridges from the masses to the top classes of society to lead by merit. The lack of potential growth and mobility has crushed the culture into dystopian decline. There is no mechanism to stop this inherited wealth cancer. It is terminal.

Or did they just stay silent in fear of persecution?English151·1 day agoPretty sure there has almost always been a line in the sand where the lower classes will say whatever. You’re never going to stop the dumbest squeaky wheels. The difference is where in the classes and at what official level saying something becomes an issue.
Like with free speech in the USA. That means legislative from the federal government.
So like saying is one thing, but leaflets, and a rally, white papers, or other published work by someone with credible academic credentials, are another.

Congratulations to the winners of the new age of progress and human evolution. If anyone tells you about the wonders of making nothing and a service economy, shoot them dead and don’t look back. They are criminal traitors.

Only the average tax payer pays. The perpetrators of the crime of misconduct have no real consequences.
Retribution is not a solution either. Police in places like Germany have an order of magnitude less problems due to an order of magnitude more training.
Punish conservatives that underfund police training. Not the call-girl politisluts. They whore for anything because they have no ethics or values. Murder inherited wealth in the country. Take everything except a trust fund that covers an upper middle class lifestyle for one’s immediate family dependents.
All problems in the USA are due to gross inherited wealth. Business acumen and intelligence are not hereditary. The system lacks meritocracy, which always leads to rot and failure. Every big name you know is tied to the toxic culture of great inherited wealth. The core problem is systemic and cultural. Fix the real issue.
√𝛂𝛋𝛆@piefed.worldto News@lemmy.world•Lawmakers and activists call for action after AP reveals US tech role in China's surveillance stateEnglish31·3 days agoThe shit isn’t made here. China is more than capable of creating all of this stuff without the USA. The US companies are only pricing the stuff at below what it costs to do the same natively.
This is just like what has happened with Nvidia. Right wingnuts are too stupid to understand how monopolies work. One must suppress the market to prevent the fiscal viability of competitors.
Everyone knows of the Raspberry π? That is Broadcom suppressing the trailing edge compute market as a monopoly. They are selling a set top TV box chip to use in the Rπ at cost from the fab only using any excess down time on a trailing edge fab node. They are preventing Rockchip, Allwinner, and Mediatek from grass roots scaling. They are also spuriously passing off their manipulative monopoly move as a charity and tax write off, while undercutting a free trade market, and doing it with a proprietary device in an open source community space by making the Rπ the path of least resistance with disproportionate software development funding.
This is how all US companies work. The device you are looking at right now is likely running a proprietary Qualcomm SoC. The orphaned proprietary Linux kernel is the reason you do not own the device and it is not supported for the real life of the hardware.
Dogmatic fools blame the tools. The tools are never the problem.
