Um hier mal etwas praktischer zu werden und nicht nur Allgemeinplätze zu bedienen wie dieser Artikel, teile ich gerne ein paar Punkte, die bei uns (Verheiratet, beide Berufstätig, zwei Kinder) enorm helfen:

• Familie und Netzwerk: Kinder groß zu ziehen ist leichter, wenn mehr Hände mit anpacken können. Es wäre für uns schlichtweg nicht möglich beide weiter in Vollzeit zu arbeiten, ohne die Unterstützung durch die Großeltern. Zur praktischen Abstimmung haben wir eine Signal-Familiengruppe.
• Guten und vor allem flexiblen Arbeitgeber suchen: im Homeoffice zu arbeiten oder mit Gleitzeit zu arbeiten ist Gold wert. Das geht sicher nicht bei jedem Job. Vereinbarkeit von Job und Familie ist aber viel leichter, wenn man diese Möglichkeit hat.
• Familienkalender: Termine werden im gemeinsamen Familienkalender gepflegt - keine Kompromisse. Dadurch ist immer transparent wer wann was macht oder machen muss.
• Rezept- und Einkaufslistenapp: wir benutzen Paprika 3 und sind vollkommen überzeugt. Das Planen der Mahlzeiten im Voraus für die Woche spart Zeit und Geld und verringert auch die Menge an Lebensmitteln, die wir wegwerfen.
• Putzfrau: ist ein Luxus und kann nicht jeder im Budget unterbringen; dennoch eine große Verbesserung dieses ganze Thema einfach an jemanden übergeben zu können.

Hat jemand darüber hinaus noch sinnvolle Ergänzungen? Der Artikel hatte für mich ja leider nichts wirklich Konkretes…

This is an important milestone. However, in several countries including large ones like Germany, it is possible to sign the petition without an eID. There definitely needs to be a security buffer.

However, the relatively simple method of signing in Germany and countries that similarly don’t require you to jump through many hoops makes it easier, in my view, to encourage other, older people to sign. Feel free to openly discuss the topic with your family. In my family chat, a simple share with a short explanation of why the issue is important to me resulted in two more signatures.

Ja, vermeintlich tut das auf dem real existierenden Spielplatz niemandem weh und 38.000 EUR sind im Budget der Stadt ein winziger Posten. Trotzdem geht damit vollkommen unnötig Vertrauen kaputt oder bestehende Vorbehalte werden gefühlt bestätigt.

Ja, in einer idealen Welt sollten Onkel Hans-Peter und Tante Hildegard bei der nächsten Kommunalwahl schauen, wie sich der Betreuungsschlüssel in der KiTa ihrer Enkel verändert hat, wie der städtische Nahverkehr läuft oder wie zuverlässig die Müllabfuhr ist. Womöglich ist bei einigen Wählerinnen und Wählern dann aber dieser Gedanke im Hinterkopf, wenn sie dann in der Wahlkabine stehen: “Diesen etablierten Politikern geht es ja eh nur darum Spielplätze umzubenennen; hab ich doch schon immer gewusst, dass die nicht taugen!”

Ja, das ist ein Totschlagargument. Ich möchte aber erwidern, dass die Umbenennung vom etablierten Begriff ‘Spielplatz’ zu einem sperrigen Begriff ‘Spiel- und Aktionsfläche’, der vermutlich nie Einzug in die Alltagssprache erhalten wird, kein Fortschritt ist. Mir erschließt sich nicht, warum der Begriff Spielplatz jetzt ungeeignet sein sollte. Ein Hinweis wie ‘Barrierefreier Spielplatz’ oder ‘Inklusionsspielplatz’ wäre da noch besser gewesen, weil so schon etablierte Begriffe genutzt würden, um näher zu beschreiben, dass dieser Spielplatz eine erweiterte Funktion hat.

Wie gesagt ist das ein wichtiger Meilenstein. Da aber zum Beispiel in Deutschland, anders als in einigen anderen EU Ländern, die Unterzeichnung der Petition auch ohne eID möglich ist, braucht es definitiv einen Sicherheitspuffer.

Die relativ simple Methode zur Unterschrift in Deutschland (Angabe von Namen, Anschrift und ein captcha) macht es aber aus meiner Sicht leichter auch andere, ältere Menschen zu ermuntern. Sprecht ruhig offen in eurer Familie das Thema an. In meinem Familienchat hat ein einfaches Teilen mit einer kurzen Erklärung, warum mir das Thema am Herzen liegt, für zwei weitere Unterschriften gesorgt.

Is this a specifically US problem? As a Dutchman I can attest to the fact that kids are biking just as much now than they were during my own childhood, probably even more (and much more safely).

As a Dutch person living abroad (even though only in neighbouring Germany) it’s true that our directness is sometimes seen as impoliteness. Most Dutch people I know mean absolutely no offence and just say out loud what they are thinking. Somehow many other countries prefer to skirt around uncomfortable direct communication.

There’s a term for what you are describing: enshittification

While I agree that the prevalence of digital media and the internet is a new phenomenon that requires new Ideas and approaches for parenting, I disagree with the idea that mankind is currently faced with a particularly different world state. While, at least for many people in the place we used to refer to as “the West” life was probably cosier in the 90s or even the 2000s, that is certainly not the case for people in other regions. Additionally I don’t think there has ever been a time when things were “good” in the first place. I was born into a world where nuclear annihilation and MAD was ingrained into society. It felt like an inevitable fact that at some point mankind would face nuclear annihilation and yet people were still able to have families, raise children and enjoy the little things.

Depending on the age and number of children being a stay at home parent is often more stressful than working a full time job. The draining part is that you can never switch off. No coffee break, no lunch break, not even bathroom breaks if you’re taking care of a baby or needy toddler.

I even understand much better why Germany fell prey to fascism at the time. Germans had gone through two million KIA, major territorial losses, a once in a century pandemic, hyperinflation, crippling economic war reparations and a once in a century economic depression in the span of less than twenty years and yet only a third of them voted for the fascist in the last free election. Keep in mind that democratic tradition was not firmly established in Germany by that point. Meanwhile US citizens have gone through a major economic crisis in 2008/9, a major pandemic and and increase in egg prices and suddenly more than half of voters there chose the fascist.

So we’re now at the stage where people risk being arrested without a charge by goons unwilling to properly identify themselves and then being killed because of that?

The current situation in the United States is eerily similar to 1930s Germany in my opinion. We’re probably just a few months away from political opponents being picked up on made up charges or even disappeared straight up.

This was one of the key policy changes promised by the conservatives that now lead the new government. While only about 1000 people per month were coming to Germany on this type of visa, it has remained a topic of great importance for many German voters.

It’s difficult to say if this decision is “right” or “wrong”. It does seem to reflect what a majority of voters in Germany want though.

As it turns out, it really didn’t have to. Brazil simply respected agreements instead of unilaterally reneging on them at short notice. If the World Cup ever comes to Brazil again, I’d recommend pulling a Qatar and just nodding along until two weeks before the tournament starts and then just changing the rules according to what you believe is correct.

While there certainly is some level of discrimination towards Muslims in Germany, especially among people on the political right, this rise seems to correlate with increased measurement. If I correct for the increase in advisory centres the rate seems unchanged since last year.

We’ll have to wait for a full analysis first. However, Boeing is known for having lackluster quality control that has led to accidents in the past. If the company is indeed responsible for the crash, I fear that the current UD regime will likely do everything within its power to shield it from consequences.
