1 小时前Server side software is rarely ”just an exe”. It involves databases, cron jobs, message queuing, and other internal tooling or cloud infrastructure. All of these must be in place properly for the software to function.

I’m just reacting to the idea that ”releasing server side software for free” is trivial. It’s not. It requires deliberate effort from the engineers.
I’m speaking from experience maintaining server side software. I haven’t watched Pirate Software.

That’s easier said than done. The server side software might rely on proprietary software. Releasing the server side software can be a legal licensing nightmare.
Also, the software might make many assumptions about the internal infrastructure setup. For example, it might assume that it has access to a hard coded S3 path. It’s actually a lot of effort to ensure a software can be run on anyone’s computer.

14·3 天前I would buy it if the excuse was they wanted an actor that could do voice as well as motion capture, and maybe David Hayter wasn’t cut to do both at the same time. In some promo it sounded like they wanted someone who could do both. In the age of motion capture, it’s going to be jarring to record voice lines in a booth separately. Particularly if multiple actors interact with each other in a scene.
But no. There was barely any interesting acting at all from Snake. Most of the acting was carried by the other characters, while Snake was just grunting doing nothing in particular.
I’d rather take MGS4 Snake any day.
They only care about short term growth. They don’t care about if the growth is unsustainable in the long term.
This year’s numbers must be better than last year’s numbers.

Originality is uncertainty, and shareholders don’t like uncertainty. Better to spend the money on certain failures instead.

They probably don’t test the entire server architecture locally. Maybe only a fragment of it, with the rest of the environment either mocked, or against a shared dev environment hosted in the cloud.
