ErgoMechKeyboards@lemmy.world•Keyboard recommendations for programmers?
51·2 years agoKeychron Q13 Pro Full Size (Alice Layout) looks pretty cool. I have the Keychron Q3 TKL (not an ergo board) that I’ve been pretty happy about for a while now.
In another life I used to use the MS Natural ergo rubber dome keyboard and it was really great for comfort and preventing RSI. So I’ve been looking for a good mechanical (or Topre) ergo keyboard for a very long time. I think the Keychron Q10 Pro 75% TKL (Alice Layout) might be the one.
Ah, a loop hole.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•The tech companies scanning your face while you shop
1·2 years agoI wondered if there are other means, beside a mask or face cover, to not be seen. Like some sort of cream you put on, like you would sunscreen, that somehow tricks the camera recognition tools. ???

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•A person comes up to you and says, "I can reverse time for just $1 per day." Do you take their offer? How far back do you go?
2·2 years agoThis is a pretty common wish, I’d wager. Know everything you know now with no responsibility. Ace school cause it’d be like a review. Friends and romance would be much, much easier with your experience. You would be SO free simply be knowing it’s such a waste of time and energy worrying about certain things (am I normal, does she like me, am I ugly, etc.)
Oh to just sit back and relax with nothing hanging over my head and no responsibilities (compared to an adult). Oh, to have that very strong feeling of wonder and know your while life ahead of you and the possibilities are endless!
What a beautiful and splendid fantasy. If only.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Americans, what is something that Europeans have/do that makes no sense to you?

And all the smoking! Eek. And we thought we had a drug problem in the USA. I’ve never seen so many people addicted to nicotine in my life when I’ve been there. It’s everywhere. No thank you, I don’t want to inhale nasty odor while eating my lunch. Jeez, WTF?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•if it turned out there was a sentient AI capable of running the world would you accept it or rebell against it?
9·2 years agoDepends on what “running the world” means. That needs clarification.
I second Octavia Butler.
On my list to read, but haven’t yet, is N.K. Jemisin.
A fairly new author is Malcom Turnbull. He was on a radio interview a while back and the book (The Lesson) sounded interesting so I gor it and read it.
A lot of the sci-fi books I’ve been reading lately have black [main] characters. I don’t know if those authors are black though. I have to look into it.

Fiction Books@literature.cafe•Are there any tropes in some books you just can’t get enough of?
1·2 years agoI recently finished Station Eleven and honestly thought it was a bit boring. After that read I was put off of that author. Is Sea of Tranquility on par with Station Eleven? Should I reconsider?

Fiction Books@literature.cafe•Are there any tropes in some books you just can’t get enough of?
3·2 years agoNo I haven’t, but it looks good. I have read The Wayward Pines Trilogy and Dark Matter, both by Crouch. I liked the Pines. Dark Matter was okay.
Thanks for the tip.

Fiction Books@literature.cafe•Are there any tropes in some books you just can’t get enough of?
6·2 years agoI like time travel, if that’s a trope. I’m always looking for a new take on it as many different stories using it have already been told.

Saw it today. It could have been so much more. Lots of inconsistencies regarding what the child can do.
Pretty much a blow everything up, action, special effects type of movie. Story was okay. Somewhat original. A few emotional manipulation tricks towards the end.
I’d give it a B-.
Update: wanted to add the cinematography was really good. Very inspiring scenery. That was the best part. The child actor was very good too. Those were the best parts of the movie. The US Army General was one dimensional, shallow, and just a bad stereotype. Very poorly done. That was the stupidest/worse parts of the movie.
