People are “at risk”… of what? What a terrible article to not even clarify what the risk is. Because it sounds to me like the government is who put those people at risk by making them go look for solutions to a draconian policy.

If I’m opening a stock market account, I’m trusting them with generating my tax receipts! If I don’t feel comfortable trusting them to hold my personal data directly, I probably should choose a different brokerage…
Edit: Anyways, I’m annoyed enough that everyone has gone to phone based 2 factor that requires me to buy a phone and keep it on a cell network, so you can imagine how much I despise even an easier version of this.
Canada currently has a bill looking to do the same thing. AFAIK, Australia’s already passed one, many US states are looking at them individually. The EU is looking at frameworks for it. I suppose there will be some places that won’t, but this is increasingly looking like what governments have decided to do, and rather than geofencing, once a large number of money-making territories want this, I think most corporations will do it globally, and smaller sites simply won’t be able to run.
Sucks, because it’s going global and we can’t seem to stop it. I’m fine with laws to age gate in terms of a button you click. If some kid is willing to say they’re 15… well, let’s make sure people are treating them as a 15 year old. But… making everyone deal with real verification is at best going to further entrench big business, and at worst, destroy the internet we love. And it raises the question: are trans teenagers talking to each other now creating adult content because the UK hates trans people?
Ah, then maybe you would enjoy talking to the 50 year old office mom!
Assuming those are still a thing, of course. They were a thing when my office’s age averaged ~ 25, but I seem to remember losing the office mom position when the overall office age got higher… but maybe the position went away more generally…
It’d be married and single women, most likely. (Edit: they prefer to classify us by our relationships with men.)
You mean, you, a presumably young man, don’t come to the office to chat with your 50 year old office mom, or your CEOs and managers, or your coworkers whose interests only overlap yours so far as employment opportunities? How bizarre!

Apparently, they’re still screaming about how liberals are using violence. Nucking futz.
FedEx forged my signature. Very lucky that I got my shit, but the company paid extra for me to sign, FedEx called and verified I’d have to be home, they didn’t show up the right day, and the next day randomly showed up and left the item after “I” signed. It wasn’t even someone else in the house that signed. Just a blatantly forged sig by the delivery man.
Hm. I’ve seen her paperwork mentioned a few times, maybe they’ve stopped writing it because they think everyone knows now. I remember getting so annoyed at “DNA, the building blocks of life” but it really was new information to a lot of people. Honestly, the paperwork issue is what terrifies me. I had that same “paperwork” style issue maybe 20 years ago, and I’m so glad they just denied me entry.
I haven’t had any recent interactions, but if your family is white US citizens, I doubt there will be a problem. If they are pending on any immigration status, I would suggest they contact a lawyer before crossing the border.
And you, your kids and your grandkids will all work in the factory for minimum wage at the same time! A real family affair, whether you’re an 80 year old or a 12 year old, there’s factory work there for you!
I guess, since they’re careers jobs for life, they’re also saying that recessions like the one they’re triggering right now will never happen again, because layoffs aren’t going to be a thing. So that’s… um… an interesting empty promise, anyways.
If that’s what happened, they should be able to prove that and the money will go to them. But I’ve certainly heard stories, and I look forward to the results of an investigation.
Ugh, that is so fucking annoying. Any time I see the conservatives winning straight up the middle… And there were some where it was the other way around, too, where Liberals could have won. I’m not sure the average person can do strategic voting, so please don’t think it’s only NDP. The problem I think is that it’s mostly the politics nerds who pay enough attention to what’s happening to properly vote strategically. Maybe I’m underestimating people but I think more normal people hear “strategic” + “Mark Carney is in the lead” -> “vote liberal.”
When I got rid of Duo, it had removed the crowd sourced explanations and only had the super-premium support in select countries, so even if I wanted to subscribe to it, as a non-American, I couldn’t.
Mind you, I didn’t want the AI-based version because yeah. I could use Anki + ChatGPT for free.
It’s a very polite post on the surface, but do note that they refer to trans women as “it”. I think they’re being very polite because they know that saying “I think trans women are just deluded men and I don’t want to respect those things” doesn’t go as well.
Um. This isn’t really an outlier leadership anymore. It’s happened twice, and the vote in favor of it got bigger rather than smaller. Trump campaigned on doing this, and his vote share increased. A large proportion of Americans clearly want America First and America Alone, and maybe they don’t understand the consequences of that, but that’s what they want. I’m not saying the US is going to collapse, way too big of a bet to make, but to say no one will surpass the US in the near term… I dunno. I think you might be getting caught in American exceptionalism.
I think the world is reorienting itself. It’s going to be very painful for us, but we’ll get through it. And America will rattle its sabers and dream of Empire.
Even if the new country is a convenient tax haven, does the new country have educated population, large workforce, good infrastructure, good rule of law?
Does the US? Rule of law is failing. Larger workforces exist elsewhere. The education system is being systematically defunded. The infrastructure has been falling apart for years and I’m pretty sure the money for rebuilding was stopped in Feb.
Did you mean to reply to me on that? I was only talking about how crazy the earth day one was, not trying to make a direct comparison. The earth day one was absolutely massive, yet I don’t think the climate is in a good place now.
Regardless, I do hope Americans throw off fascism.
… Trump probably wants to get you on the crypto standard so he can make Bolsonaro coins a thing with a royalty to him. America is so fully mobbed up now, sanctioning judges…
