Every country on earth already has the staffing and infrastructure to self-host a mastadon server. This would be so much easier than trying to rebuild the technology from the ground up. if you see a post from a government run instance, you know it’s a gov official since mastadon can restrict registrations. The Quiet Year uses a deck of cards. The goal of the game is to rebuild a community after collapse. 1 campaign takes place over 1 year in game.

Weave was a game where you used an app and special tarot cards to build your characters and run the game, but I think the servers have gone offline, which is a shame. There was little balance to the character building but it was a lot of fun.

how long does it take you to get to your country’s capitol city? I can’t find an exact number for the US but I estimate less than 25% of Americans live within a one day drive to our capitol. meaning it is a significant investment for most of the country, one that the median household can’t afford.

it takes a lot of scientific literacy to effectively communicate the results of 1 research paper to the public. most people writing these communications lack the required literacy or intentionally overstate the current status. Furthermore, this paperay not be reproducable and will fade to history, or it could be the cornerstone of future drug development and have 100+ citations in 3 years. as it is, we simply don’t know where the continued research will lead, and this can cause “breakthrough fatigue” to the general public, and reduce public trust in science.
