Northerners weren’t simply more high minded than southerners concerning slavery - industrialization lessened their dependence on slaves to the point where they could abandon slavery without the economy crumbling.
Presumably this would happen in the south as they industrialized as well.

Edit: For those of you taking this seriously, it’s just a play on a stupid star wars meme

Oh and the short story is very good, as is Ted Chiang’s entire collection. I would definitely recommend reading them to any scifi fan.

tan00k@lemmy.worldto Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•I want to feel like a bad-ass wizard41·10 months agoAs someone who came into the series at elden ring, I agree with you. I initially tried a mage and it felt quite a bit more difficult than sword and board.
The game felt like it was designed for physical weapons and shield, whereas with magic the difficulty was all over the place - easy time with one boss, nearly impossible on another. If you aim for a boss cheese build maybe magic is easier.
tan00k@lemmy.worldto TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•I've got a spicy take, but desperately want to get it off my chest1·10 months agoIt really bothered me that they didn’t even mention the doctor, what with seven of nine being there and the ai plotline. But after watching more of Picard, I’m glad they didn’t and especially glad they mostly steered clear of ds9.

I think most star trek episodes can be torn apart pretty easily - I actually enjoy pointing out errors while I watch. But it’s good drama and themes with fun characters in an optimistic future, which is still a rarity decades later.

Don’t like the sound of that
Didn’t the huge group of humans that could never agree on anything all decide to go live without technology with cave men at the end? It’s been a very long time since I watched it but I remember hating that. iirc there were some unresolved plot lines too, but I don’t remember enough to list them. I was a huge fan of the early seasons.

You always finish an entire TV series?
Do you just remember where you are in every show (or movie that you only partway watched)? That’s the biggest appeal of jellyfin/plex to me, so I can go in and continue from where I left off without keeping track.
Agreed. I saw this and thought it looked beautifully passive aggressive

I did. You never explained where you got this idea that Millennials have a 25 year gap and the others are 10.
