  • Rick and Morty did this once, Rick simply put on a hat with a QR code that made a robot army recognize him as a high level commander.

A few days ago I read a short story, comp.basilisk.faq by David Langford, which sketched a world in which specific images could irreversibly crash the brain, leading to a full scale worldwide ban on images on the internet and many other places as well. The story postulated hundreds of potential info-hazards with many of them simple enough to be applied via stencil and spray paint. Two of them are branch families of the Mandelbrot set ‘and no we won’t tell you where, do not look’

Other examples; Snow Crash — Neal Stephenson Blit — David Langford The Atrocity Archives — Charles Stross Doctor Who — “Blink” / “The Time of the Doctor” SCP Foundation — SCP-096 SCP-7387 (“The Mathematician’s Grin”)

“Keep your eyes peeled or we’ll peel them for you wholesale!”

  • Hey, you know what? It worked. Kids stopped being shot. Isn’t that the goal? Any means necessary? It was effective. Extremely small class sizes, distributed learning, it works and people don’t die anymore.

Instead of making any positive changes the school system just said, ‘glad that’s over, get back to the old system immediately you little scamps!’ Gotta save money after all!

There is a solution, y’all don’t like it. Gun owners know there’s another solution now, one that doesn’t make them give up their investment to solve a problem they will never be involved in.

I will not be affected by whining about this problem when a proven alternative solution exists. Especially since the proven effective solution only burdens the actual people involved in the actual problem; all of us terrible parents and all of our horrible little children.

  • You know what fully ended school shootings? The pandemic lockdown. We know what causes school shootings; schools are an underfunded nightmare pressure cooker half a step away from the prison system. We know how to fix it, change the system. Since we rushed back to the system that causes the shootings as quickly as we could, I guess you could absolutely say they died for nothing and will continue to die for nothing, probably until there are no more humans left to die for nothing.

I’m literally arguing a point that someone made, then the comment was deleted. I think you’re projecting an inability to follow things onto me when really it’s a struggle that you’re coping with yourself.

Reflexively hating all landlords is a symptom of not understanding how things work and, probably more importantly, a burning desire not to understand a goddamn thing.

If you can’t get a loan to buy a house, what makes you think that will change if there are no rooms for rent?

For real though not understanding how loans work at all is on brand for you guys, If you want to go back to the days when everyone could own a house why don’t you go attack the zoning laws that make houses so expensive and survivable, then we can go back to shanty towns that burn thousands and crawl with disease but hey everyone can own their own no loan hovel right?
