tetrachromacy@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Gunmen storm Mexican village hall and shoot dead mayorEnglish9·15 days agoI’m no Mexico expert but I can’t imagine Mexico is wealthy enough to afford this type of protection in the numbers they need. They also couldn’t likely rely on local hires without extensive background checking. Bear in mind that they would need people who are experienced and ready to shoot at all times. The best scenario would be to hire PMCs to provide security but they don’t come cheap and have their own logistical issues.
Why not just legalize drugs? Then you can just tax em. Fairly of course cause it still has to be profitable. The illegality of the drugs is why there’s so much crime down there. Take the money you’re putting into drug enforcement and put it into education on why the drugs shouldn’t be done in the first place. Give people the tools to make educated choices about what they put into their bodies you know? I guess I just don’t get it.

She does a fantastic job of breaking down why the new Star Wars hotel sucked and then closed down. I watched it over a few days - it’s broken up into little chunks so you can stop and start it if you don’t have 4 spare hours.
She relates the hotel to the general trend of service/experience degradation that Disney is seeing now. It’s a function of there being zero legitimate competition - nobody else is opening a hotel themed after Star Wars, and rich nerds will pay any amount to be in that universe, even for a brief moment. Instead of maximizing the experience, which is why people wanted to go, they cut as many corners as they could to take in the maximum profit.
I won’t spoil more plus she does a better job of explaining. This video an exhaustively compiled labor of love, but she didn’t love her experience at the hotel. Instead, her heart was broken when she saw what a soulless money grab it was, so she was compelled to document its many failings.
You’re not wrong… if you’re talking about the model 3 or the X or older models. If you purchased a cybertruck then you are past the point where you can say that you bought it before he went crazy/nazi.
If someone has 100k to piss away on Musk’s stupid wankpanzer, then they probably have a different car that they can drive if they’re that serious about refusing to identify with a Nazi. Drive that car instead and let the silver trash can topper sit in your garage. That way it won’t die in the rain.

It’s rapidly climbing up my hours played list since 1.0 release. Bought it at 17.99, played for 220 hours so far. Math says that’s 9 cents an hour, and I’m still not done playing. Live and drink, friend!

If so then it may as well be played online. If you can’t walk away from the game until you’re in a safe spot, then there’s no functional difference between an MMO and this game except you don’t get randos teabagging your corpse. This is why I stopped playing MH games.
I played MMOs for years and they’re great in some ways, but I got tired of always having to arrange myself safely before stepping away for a bio break or a snack.

I found it to be more rewarding on a second read-through after finishing several other Culture novels. By all means keep reading Phlebas, it’s very good, but it’s ok to sit back and sort of let the book happen, if you get my drift. It’ll become clearer as you read.

tetrachromacy@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Here's a Valentine's Day question. What's the most complicated specific variant of the "it's complicated" relationship status you've ever seen?6·5 months agoI had forgotten about this episode!
In my personal experience, true poly couples often act the way that Phlox/Feezal do around a potential new partner. In all cases I’ve seen they respect the boundaries that the new partner sets, like here Trip feels weird and expresses that later in the episode, so they back off.
Poly relationships would have been a really cool dynamic to explore on Enterprise though, so it’s somewhat of a missed opportunity. Oh well.
