What? Map projections are not projected to manipulate you psychologically. They are projected to manipulate a three dimensional object onto a two dimensional surface.
You can install a wireguard spk from blackvoid - Wireguard SPK for your Synology NAS.
Oh boy! Are you serious? Let me be more precise, in case. There aren’t actual projections that are better in all cases than the Mercator projection. There are maps that are better in given cases. ALL maps have trade offs. The one you shared, included. It certainly benefits from the humor of pointing out why this is an issue in the first place.
I don’t believe that 99% figure for a second. Unless geography is removed from all curricula worldwide. Even still, that ignorance would not signify what this movement implies. It is a useful map; end of story. If the movement were, “We should increase public knowledge of geography and how projections work,” fine. But it isn’t.
There aren’t better maps. Only maps with different tradeoffs. ALL 2d maps of spheres are disproportionate.
This is such a garbage take. There is no way to “show our world as it truly is” in two dimensions. I’m all about showing other projects and orientations. Classrooms should have “upside down” maps and Albert maps for example. But we should also teach that each projection has benefits and drawbacks. I was taught that decades ago. Have we stopped?
What does that even mean? A half eaten PB&J is still a damned good sandwich.
But it is for their own good. Without measures like this, they might end up in bathrooms with perv… hey wait a minute. 💡
With that last part I agree. And I’d bet we probably generally agree, but as a matter of perspective our positions look different. I’m not trying to be obtuse here.
This is such a silly line of thinking. To call being gay unnatural is clearly a misuse of the word, but the idea that everything that exists at all is natural is nonsense. For example, hot pink is an unnatural human hair color. Even if you color your hair hot pink, and therefore it exists; that doesn’t make it natural. So in the absence of another word used to describe something that wouldn’t otherwise exist in nature without human intervention, … “unnatural” is perfectly suited to this task.
The words exist across languages because we use them to mean something. If they had neither denotative nor connotative use, your comment itself would not mean anything. That you made the comment seems to me to imply that you know there is a difference.
Well that would just diminish the value of having both words.
I love Zen.
Bonus points is you run a fork bomb in parallel and see how far you get. Throw an egg on your heat sink for fun.
You mean when streaming video bandwidth, bidirectionally across the radio?
Python is strongly typed. I get your point since it is dynamically typed, but still strongly.
I assume you aren’t engaging in good faith dialog here, given the immediate reach for disparaging remarks, but on the off chance you are, let me ask you this. If you asked somebody what their favorite whisky was, and they replied “Laphroaig”, would that be a sign of Scottish nationalism or exceptionalism? Or if you asked their favorite cheese, and they gave “Gouda”, a sign of Dutch exceptionalism?
Just because one’s answer to “What community would you like to see more active…” is something that is from the US, this is not American Exceptionalism. The question wasn’t, “What community do you think every Lemmy user should be required to participate in?” Nor was is, “What community is the best and most important on Lemmy?”
Clearly, at least one person here cares about it. Clearly that person isn’t you. Everything you have written here is incorrect, and if you had any shame, you’d be embarrassed to have said it in public.
If that isn’t already shorthand for “whenever, wherever, whatever” it should be.
5g is amazing when the coverage is good though.
