Reposting what I said on Mastodon, since a few people seem to be falling for this one:
[…] but this looks like satire, and searching for that poster’s name suggests that he’s not being serious here.
Case in point: he has a blog that shows he’s not a Trumper.
https://drewpavlou.substack.com/p/maga-maoism-trumpism-as-a-third-worldConservatives have a hard time understanding satire (article about this), let’s make sure progressives don’t become the same way. (I know, it’s hard, especially when a lot of conservative opinions are indistinguishable from satire.)
I downvote if it looks like they are posting in bad faith. I’ll upvote some comments that I disagree with if the poster was trying to contribute to the conversation – I usually do that to offset the fact that they’ve been downvoted a bunch already.
Many of the communities I’m in are fairly small, so I upvote almost every comment that I read. I figure it lets someone know that someone else read what they wrote, and I think that’s what a lot of us are here for.
tuckerm@feddit.onlineOPtoPeertube@lemmy.ml•Has anyone tried using the Peertube video player outside of a Peertube instance?English1·5 天前Well, I’m glad to know that at least there isn’t some obvious solution that I’m missing. I might be able to explore this myself a little later – I’ve been curious about P2P things lately.
P.S. thanks for making Fireside Fedi!
tuckerm@feddit.onlineOPtoPeertube@lemmy.ml•Has anyone tried using the Peertube video player outside of a Peertube instance?English1·5 天前What I mean is: has anyone taken just the frontend Javascript for Peertube’s video player and used that by itself, without running a full Peertube server? And if so, can that video player make P2P connections with other people’s browsers that are watching the same video?
Eh, yes and no. Can’t say I enjoy it all that much right now, especially since I’m very out of shape for it, haha. I haven’t really run in a long time and it felt like an awkward movement for the first few days. It was nostalgic, though, since I used to run track in high school. I think I would find a longer session to be monotonous, but right now my goal is to work up to running a mile and I don’t really plan on having a longer cardio session than that. Also, I go in the evenings, and it’s been nice to be outside while the sun is going down.
Glad to hear that Crossfit has been enjoyable for you; I’ve heard other people say the same (or, similar things about crossfit-style workouts). Almost like cardio is being snuck into a workout that has more exciting things in it, lol.
tuckerm@feddit.onlineto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What websites search function do you hate most?English16·6 天前In addition to what you mentioned, another really annoying thing about Youtube’s search is that it sometimes gives totally different results from one minute to the next. You can search for something, then type those exact same words just a few seconds later, and you get a completely different list of videos. So if you ever do get a list of good results, you need to leave that browser tab alone and open a new one to keep those results “safe.”
tuckerm@feddit.onlineto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What websites search function do you hate most?English3·6 天前Reddit is the first one that comes to mind for me, too. It was always easier to use a search engine like Google or DuckDuckGo and do
thing I'm looking for site:reddit.com
instead of actually using Reddit’s search feature.
tuckerm@feddit.onlineOPtoPeertube@lemmy.ml•Has anyone tried using the Peertube video player outside of a Peertube instance?English3·6 天前OK, I found a little something here: https://docs.joinpeertube.org/contribute/architecture#concepts-1
It says this:
Segments are loaded by HTTP from the origin server + servers that mirrored the video and by WebRTC from other web browsers that are watching the video. They are used by hls.js to stream them into the <video> HTML element
That “from other web browsers that are watching the video” is what I’m curious about: how does it know who those people are?
Sounds like I need to learn more about hls.js and Peertube’s custom loader for it.
tuckerm@feddit.onlineto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Original Crysis suddenly vanishes on Steam in another blow to preservationEnglish111·6 天前I agree with what Kolanaki said – it should be available simply because it existed, not just because people will want to play some version of Crysis. My preference is that each patch-level version of a game should be made available somewhere for people to check out. It’s not simply about a product being available that satisfies some need or desire (in this case, the desire to play Crysis). Works that people have made should be available for others to explore.
Also:
If there was no alternative, and debatably superior
is that true? I’m genuinely asking. I think I actually own the remastered version of Crysis, but I haven’t actually played it, as I also have the original on Steam. I thought the remastered version was a graphically improved version of the console port of Crysis, which made some changes to the way that your powers activate. And I remember everyone disliking that when the console ports first came out.
After not doing cardio for years, I ran on the track after my workouts every day last week except for one (and that was simply because the gate was locked).
Also did well on bench press. Not a PR, but close to it.
tuckerm@feddit.onlineto Gaming@beehaw.org•Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of June 22ndEnglish2·7 天前Metal Gear Solid. Only had a few minutes to play it – I mainly just wanted to see how it looked, so I only got through the very first introductory room. Looks just like how I remembered it. I bought the collection with MGS 1, 2, and 3. I’ve already played a fair amount of the first game (although like…15 years ago), but never beat it. I only ever played MGS 2 on a friends Playstation 2 occasionally, and have never played the third game. So I’m really looking forward to those.

They announced a while ago that they working on new titles for Virtua Fighter, Golden Axe, Crazy Taxi, and a few others, so I’m assuming those are the “Legacy IPs.” What is their European IP? The Total War franchise? The developer, Creative Assembly is from the UK. That just seems like a weird way to phrase it, if that’s what they’re talking about.
tuckerm@feddit.onlineto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•how are my fellow peeps hosting your music collection these days?English31·11 天前I use Funkwhale, which I have liked, but my use case is just streaming music through my laptop and listening with headphones. I don’t think there is a client available that will run on your Autonomic streamer.
Funkwhale does have a subsonic API, so you could use a subsonic client, but you mentioned that didn’t quite work before. (Is that what you mean by __sonic? I haven’t actually heard that term.)
Funkwhale is nice, but I think for most people it doesn’t (yet) offer any useful features beyond what Navidrome has, and probably even lacks a few things that Navidrome has. Funkwhale’s main appeal is that you can follow someone’s music library via the fediverse, although there hasn’t really been a lot of use for that so far. Version 2 is coming soon, though, and adds a whole bunch of new fediverse features.

tuckerm@feddit.onlineto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there a song in a foreign language you like the melody to but didnt know the lyrics?English2·13 天前I know enough Spanish to understand the lyrics now, but loved that song before I knew what it was saying.
Hardcover would be great – I think I would get one if it was a hardcover. The one I was looking at was just a softcover. Seemed like the weight of the pages would easily be enough to damage the book itself.
