  • I saw the following meme the other day on that topic which I found amazing:

shrimps have more cones because they're dumb

On the other hand I hope my point was clear about pink being perceived as a color when it doesn’t exist as a singular wavelength on the electromagnetic spectrum: something the person I was responding to was seemingly arguing that it then invalidates what we might call a “color”. By his logic “pink” shouldn’t be considered a color, which I disagree with!

    • “far-right” gains lots of seats during european deputy elections
    • people shocked
    • Macron somehow figures this means people have new priorities and dissolves the general assembly
    • new elections
    • expected a swing victory for “far-right”
    • they actually lose seats
    • left coalition comes out on top, but with relative majority of seats only (<50%)
    • unexpected but welcome turn of events
    • issue: since no one has absolute majority it’s difficult to vote stuff
    • budget
    • Macron wants (NEEDS) to fix the debt issue
    • they’ll cut expenses in public services, mass layoffs
    • left coalition wants to find the missing money not by cutting but by taxing places where money accumulated (i.e. The Rich™)
    • left lands amends in the budget plan
    • prime minister overrules the plan using “49.3” and approves the initial Fuck The People <3 Budget Plan™
    • this unlocks the prime minister’s ejection seat button
    • prime minister is ejected
    • Macron needs to pick yet another prime minister, hopefully this time he won’t put one of his cronies to overrule the elected majority’s priorities

  • The current left isn’t “far-left” at all. Is it far-fetched to protect essential needs of your popular classes like keeping public services operating, ensuring proper education and healthcare while hunting down corporate abuse of public funds? All while proposing a balanced budget for it? That’s what I would expect the government doing, and this is the reason the NFP made all its amendments to the budget that was being prepared. That is, until Michel decided to pull a 49.3 to override the decision and get rid of the amendments Emmanuel didn’t like. You have to understand that the president gets to select his own prime minister, no one gets to vote.

Having said that, neither the left nor the right wanted Michel as prime minister and each had their own ideas about who should take the position, so it’s in everyone’s interest (except Macron) to eject him and then push for their own candidate. This is possible after Michel issuing a 49.3.

This is the system working as expected with the current rules, and a president that clings to power very very desperately with forces trying to fight him back while also fighting amongst themselves when they get a chance.

But boy did I wish Emmanuel’s gang didn’t cling as hard to power like they’re doing. It feels very underhanded.

  • […] it was decided that the language would be called “ECMAScript” instead. (Microsoft happily offered up “JScript”, but no-one else wanted that.) Brendan Eich, the creator of JavaScript and a co-signatory of this letter, wrote in 2006 that “ECMAScript was always an unwanted trade name that sounds like a skin disease.”

I tend to agree with these sentiments
